Gladihoppers Secret Names – Complete List (19 Names)

Gladihoppers secret names unlocking hidden character variations

Secret names in Gladihoppers are special words you enter as your gladiator’s name at the start of a career. When the priest recognizes a name, he gives you a hidden item — a weapon, helmet, or armor — that you cannot get any other way.

This page contains every confirmed secret name, exactly what it unlocks, the item’s stat value, and which class works best with each one.

How Secret Names Work

To use a secret name you need a Level 1 Priest in your staff, which costs 100 coins. When you start a career and name your gladiator one of the special names below, the priest will speak a unique line and hand you the hidden item before your first fight.

A few important rules:

  • All names work on all character classes unless noted otherwise
  • Spelling must be exact — capitalization matters
  • If your current high-score champion already has a secret name and you reuse it, you will only receive that champion’s old shoes instead of the special item
  • Some names will change your character’s class if the weapon type doesn’t match your original class

Best Secret Names by Class

Not every secret name works equally well on every class. Here’s how to get the most value out of each unlock.

Best Names for Paladins Paladins don’t start with a helmet, so helmet-giving names give them the biggest advantage. The best choices are Vercingetorix (stat 22 — the highest helmet in the game), Auletes (stat 20), Yuki (stat 12), Caesar (stat 9), Lemon (stat 9), and Olv (stat 8). Vercingetorix is the strongest option by a significant margin.

Best Names for Fanatics Fanatic classes don’t start with chest armor, so armor names are most useful. Geralt gives Witcher Armor (stat 12) and Henry gives Henry’s Tunic (stat 10). Berserkers with Witcher Armor or Henry’s Tunic in particular perform noticeably better in early fights.

Best Names for Swordsmen Swordsmen have access to several weapon unlocks. Crassus gives the Golden Gladius (stat 16 — the strongest weapon unlock available), Dood via Paladin gives the Katana (stat 14), and Kratos gives the Blade of Chaos (stat 12).

Class-Changing Names Some names will actually change your character’s class if the unlocked weapon doesn’t match your original class. For example, naming a Berserker Crassus will switch them to a Swordsman when they receive the Golden Gladius. If this happens, you will lose access to any items banned by the new class.

The High-Score Champion Name Trick

There is one additional secret mechanic that many players miss. If you name a new gladiator the same name as your current high-score champion, the priest will give you a random piece of equipment from that champion instead of a special item. The better your champion’s gear, the more valuable this can be. However, if your champion already has a secret name, this trick overrides the secret name reward — you’ll only get their shoes.

Tips for Using Secret Names Effectively

  • Always hire a Level 1 Priest before starting a career if you plan to use a secret name — no priest means no unlock
  • Vercingetorix is widely considered the strongest unlock in the game with a stat of 22 on a helmet
  • Use helmet names on Paladins and armor names on Fanatics to fill your weakest gear slot immediately
  • Crassus is the best pure weapon unlock (stat 16) for Swordsmen builds
  • Secret names apply from the very first fight, giving you a strong early advantage in Campaign Mode
  • Experiment with names across different playthroughs — some unlocks change the feel of a run dramatically

Frequently Asked Questions

Do secret names work on the browser version?

Yes. The secret name system works the same way whether you play on mobile, PC, or directly in your browser here on Gladihoppers.io.

Can I use secret names in Multiplayer?

Secret names apply during career creation, so any items gained carry into whichever mode you play.

What is the strongest secret name?

Vercingetorix unlocks the Winged Celtic Helmet with a stat of 22, making it the highest-value single item unlock in the game. For weapons, Crassus gives the Golden Gladius at stat 16.

Does the name need to be capitalized?

Yes — enter the name exactly as shown in the table above, with the first letter capitalized.

What happens if I already used a name on my champion?

You’ll receive your champion’s shoes instead of the special item. To get the secret unlock again, start a fresh career without that name on your high-score champion first.
